GRADE 1 – MISS SOFIANAKOS (dsofianakos@sjps.net)
We have smoothly sailed along into this 2020-2021 academic school year! Greetings! My name is Ms. Daniella Sofianakos and I have the absolute pleasure of being the first-grade teacher for my third year here at Saint Joseph School.
Each of us is continuously exploring the world around us and learning every day. In first grade, we are building upon our skills learned from Kindergarten. Students have been properly forming letters and numbers, sharpening their sentence and story writing skills, reviewing phonetic skills, and continuing to reinforce social skills.
First-Graders are discovering new ways to problem solve and are going through a transitional stage. Using technology has become the key element in today’s educational field. Our students will be utilizing Google Classroom, Sadlier Math, Razz-Kids, Happy Numbers, Mystery Science, and Generation Science as additional resources to help reiterate, enhance and develop Math, Language Arts, and STEM Skills. I encourage each family to review daily mathematical addition and subtraction equations and to read daily for at least 15minutes per night.
During the month of September in Science students learned about the changing seasons, germs and viruses, apples and pumpkins. In Social Studies students discovered more about the community in which we live and the ones that surround us.
I look forward to continuing to discover the world with our explorers and if you ever need any assistance, you can contact me at dsofianakos@sjps.net

The Lord's Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
They kingdom come.
They will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.
Hail Mary
Hail Mary, Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of death.
Amen
Morning Offering
O Jesus,
through the Immaculate Heart of Mary,
I offer You my prayers, works, joys and sufferings
of this day for all the intentions
of Your Sacred Heart,
in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass
throughout the world,
in reparation for my sins,
for the intentions of all my relatives and friends.
Amen.
Guardian Angel Prayer
Angel of God, my guardian dear,
to whom God's love commits me here,
ever this day be at my side,
to light and guard, to rule and guide.
Amen.
The Prayer of Saint Francis
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is dispair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
Where there is sadness, joy;
Lord, Grant that I may seek
To comfort rather than be comforted;
To understand rather than to be understood;
To love than to be loved.
For it is by giving that one receives;
By forgiving that one is forgiven;
And by dying that one awakens to eternal life.
Amen.
Grace Before Meals
Bless us, O Lord, and these they gifts,
which we are about to receive
from thy bounty,
Through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Act of Contrition
My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart.
In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good,
I have sinned against You Whom I should love above all things,
I firmly intend, with Your help, to do penance, to sin no more, and to avoid whatever leads me to sin.
Our Savior Jesus Christ, suffered and died for us.
In His name, my God, have mercy.
Amen.
Exit of The Day Prayer:
We are grateful for the
signs and wonders of this day,
for ordinary events and it's surprises,
big and small.
We thank you for the
loving people who surround us.
May we continue to reflect your goodness
to others in your name.
We ask this through your beloved Son, Jesus.
Amen.
