Sahib recieved a $6,000 scholarship to Saint Thomas Aquinas High School!!
January is always an exciting time here at Saint Joseph School. Why, you ask? Catholic Schools Week! Every year we look forward to celebrating our school and our community. While the celebration may be different we still have many fun things planned. We kick off the week with mass at Saint Joseph Church on January 31 at 10:30 am. We’d love to see as many of our students there in uniform to show SJS pride! Each day of the week is dedicated to appreciating different groups. Also remember we want to hear from you and your family as to why you love our school. Send a short video to Ms McKnight telling us about the great things you enjoy here at our school.
Monday- So many organizations in Carteret help us out here at Saint Joseph School. On Monday we will take some time to make cards to thank them for their service to us and the community.
Tuesday- Today we will appreciate you, the students, we look forward to a fun filled day with games. Even better we get to do this all in our pajamas!
Wednesday- Let’s get through the midweek hump with crazy hair and sock day. Show us how creative you can be.
Thursday- Thursday will be filled with STREAM activities. It will also be a day to show off your team pride and wear a jersey to school. From college to professional sports, show us your spirit.
Friday- Wrapping up the week is teacher appreciation day and mass sponsored by National Junior Honor Society. After mass we will wrap up the day with a movie.
In other news the 6th-8th graders have been preparing for and taking midterms. This helps us see where they are at the midpoint of the year. With the end of the marking period on January 22 we will have made it halfway through the year. The second half of the year will bring more challenging work and use of our Science lab. We have it all set up for social distancing and also have desk shields up. Looking forward to seeing what fun things we can hatch.
Sixth grade will continue to explore our ancient world. After we wrap up Greece we travel to India and China. In seventh grade they enjoyed watching “Hamilton” It’s always a treat to see our history come to life. We are still seeing how difficult it was for the first settlers in America to establish their government and decide on what was right and what was detrimental to the new nation. Eighth grade just fought World War I, now to rebuild.
The eighth grade has so much to look forward to in the second half of the year. The first event leading to graduation has already occurred, they received their school zippered pullovers! This is one of the great perks of being an 8th grader here at Saint Joe’s. Soon to follow will be their 8th grade T-shirts, designed by them. Cap and gown photos follow and add to the excitement. If you haven’t already paid your student’s graduation fees the next payment is due January 14. Please send in payments on time. These help offset the cost of all these great perks. Last reminder on the graduation front. Please email me your parent message to go next to your child’s picture in the yearbook. This and their baby picture are needed by the end of the month.
Wishing you all health and happiness in the new year!!
